Uncertain? Just START.

Perhaps one of the most important points I make in my “21 Days to Creative Abundance” course is this:

Amateurs wait for inspiration, while pros simply get down to work.

Because here’s the thing. If you wait around until you feel “inspired” to create, or “in the mood,” you’ll likely find yourself producing very little — which is precisely WHY you’re having such a hard time feeling inspired!

When you catch yourself procrastinating, chances are it’s because you’re waiting around for some kind of “inspiration” to get started on a piece.

But it actually works precisely opposite.

It is the act of creating that produces the inspiration.

Your job is simply to sit down each day and START.

Run through a few quick “sketches” in Photoshop to prime the pump. Grab a few images and crash them together and see what sparks they throw off.

But stop putting your creative life on hold while you wait around for some kind of magical bolt from the blue.

Just dive in. Whether you’re in the mood or not. Even if you haven’t a clue where you’re going with it yet.

Just start. You’ll find your inspiration along the way.

PS: I love the image featured here by AWAKE artist Donna Dean. Seems to make for a fine metaphor, too. Unsure what to create or how to start? Don’t sit inside moping about it. Just step out on the balcony and … dance! Because every day that finds you dancing is a day you’ve won.
